About Me

Industrial Artist Karen MitchellHi, welcome to my website. My name is Karen Mitchell and I am an industrial artist hailing from the North East. My passion for the history of the North East and its industrial heritage from the early days of the shipyards in Wallsend, to the current regeneration of the river tyne, is what drives my practice. My inspiration derives from growing up as a small child surrounded by the sounds and sights of industry.

Sometimes beginnings come when you least expect them. Attending ship launches as a child gave me a lasting impression that shaped my work in later life. From feeling so small against something so big, to watching my childhood daydreams disappear before my eyes, the Tyne and it industries have left as profound an impression on me as they did on the passionate workforce of my home town.

I now find myself driven by my early experiences, and keen to revisit Wallsend’s Industrial past, as it becomes part of its commercial future.
Everyone in my home town has a story about the Shipyards.
This is mine.

As a working and exhibiting artist, commissions and sales are my life blood. Feel free to contact me if you have any requests for commissions, or would like to view my work for purchase.
