Pastures New…….

By Karen on Tuesday, July 22nd, 2014

Well, with the winding up of the Ballarat Studios i find myself with the time and the inclination to knuckle down and be an artist again.
The project has given me once in a lifetime experience and a wealth of invaluable friends and contacts which i hope i can bring forward into new projects and new ideas but i feel at the moment it is time to get back to my roots a little bit.

Which is why i have settled for a new studio back in my home town of Wallsend!

Nestled in the rafters of Wallsend’s Memorial Hall, my new place of inspiration is a long narrow, beautifully lit former projection room that sits just above the stunning ballroom of the Memorial Hall.

Left in trust to the people of Wallsend by the Hunter half of Swan Hunter, the oldest part of the hall was build in 1883 with the extension and ballroom being built in 1925 to include a memorial to the WW1 dead of the Swan Hunter Shipyard.
Now, the hall is a charitable hub providing much needed services to the people of Wallsend.

I am thrilled to be moving in this week, and looking forward to getting working again, there is a sniff of a social history project in the pipeline but for the moment, i am keen to just set up, and enjoy making work again after a turbulent year.

Thank you all for your support and i look forward to presenting some work to you soon!
